Learning from my experiences during Government Audit

One thing I realised from my little field audit experiences is that the main focus of Audit should not be to point out the exact monetary impact. The number we compute shall be indicative. It is because during audit we face paucity of time, resources, manpower, and also lack cooperation from auditee at times. However the auditor at least, with full conviction, must be able to say that the issue she has raised is all correct. She must bring into light the faulty practice being followed by the auditee with full evidence. The amount then just becomes a number which won't matter much. In any case the number can be revised when the auditee accepts the wrongdoing. For eg. we all know that in the 2G spectrum allocation scam the major issue was wrong way of allocating the spectrum. The numbers were so huge which could not be believed. But at least, as the issue was raised the method of allocating spectrum changed.
